Ram is well-known for its extraordinary lineup of big-sized pickup trucks that come with a myriad of utilities and comforts for almost any driver out there. One of the major reasons for its likeability is Ram’s smoothest ride against its competition thanks to its exclusive coil spring rear suspension and self-leveling air suspension. Swaggering an amazing engine lineup, Ram trucks, formerly known as Dodge Ram trucks, offer excellent towing power and average fuel economy. Standing as the oldest in the group of full-sized light-duty pickups, Ram still holds its position firmly. The 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 is a light duty pickup truck positioned just below the bigger and costlier 2500 and 3500 models. It is available in three body configurations including Crew Cab, Quad Cab, and Regular Cab. Oedro will talk about its features in detail:

Engine Performance and Transmission

The 2018 Ram 1500 normally flashes three engine sizes - a 3.0L V6 Ecodiesel spitting out 240 bhp and 420 lb-ft of torque delivering 20/27 mpg city/highway, a 3.6L V6-Pentastar pumping out 305 bhp and 269 lb-ft of torque averaging 17/25 mpg city/highway, and a monstrous 5.7L Hemi V8 churning out 395 bhp and 410 lb-ft of torque 15/22 mpg city/highway. All the powertrains are paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission.

Drive and Handling

Rivaling its competitors, the 2018 Ram 1500 has an advanced suspension. By incorporating various links and coil springs, the ride more or less feels like a car rather than a truck. It delivers arguably the smoothest ride in the full-size pickup category. The best part, the Air suspension automatically lowers Ram at highways for better fuel economy practically floating across the asphalt. Although slow in acceleration, it is fast enough for daily driving and hauling.

Interior and Comfort

The interior, though slightly cramped than the competitors Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150, is fairly spacious. Practical in its essence, the interior brags premium materials from leather seats to attractive suede liners with high-class finishing and genuine wooden tones. The bucket seats in the front row coupled with the rear seats provide considerable comfort and support. The rotary shifter with its chic metal dressing located in the middle saves some valuable storage space. Hopping in and out of the Ram is made simpler by the air suspension. To make the interior look more upscale, install the very stylish Oedro Floor Liners. These floor liners come in two different categories. The Front Row set of Dodge Ram and the Whole set of Dodge Ram skillfully lines the interior carpet with easy-cleaning surface and rugged grips to avoid slipping. These tough and durable floor liners can fit any Ram 1500 Quad Cab models between 2013 and 2018. For ultimate protection against dust and stains, these floor liners provide sturdy resilience, fresh ambiance, and prime-looking interior.

Cargo Space and Storage

The new Ram 1500 is obtainable in three different bed configurations – the regular 8-foot, the crew cab with a 5-foot-7-inch, and the quad cab with a 6-foot-4-inch bed. It has the smallest bed volume of 50 cu-ft as compared to its rivals. Inside the pickup, there are 10 cup-holders and pockets to stuff things up. It can tug up to 10,620 pounds when properly saddled.

The Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility have recently been added in the 2018 Ram 1500 through Uconnect Infotainment system, which speeds up every command. Moreover, the Bluetooth connectivity keeps you in control of the system. Touch commands are equally well-performing and features like heating and cooling can be activated or shut down by a single touch. The all-new Ram 1500 comes equipped with an Alpine Stereo system. It is not the bass-booster you usually want but will give you the groove.

The Ram 1500 was last redesigned in 2009. Its crosshair grille is the hallmark of the brand. The pickup has undergone subtle touches and modifications over the years successively but the hood still manages to look luxurious and capable. The unique badging of Ram engraved in the exclusive chrome-chugged grille makes an absolute statement. Blacked-out headlamps and body-matching bumpers also throw an aggressive appeal.

Safety and Driver Assistance

The 2018 Ram 1500 bagged a 4-star rating from NHTSA due to its average safety features. A customary rearview camera system and parking sensors in the front and rear are typically standard on all the trims. It miserably lacks the driver assistance technologies that are made available by most of its rivals.

The 2018 Ram 1500 starts at $27,095 averaging a net price of $28,740 with standard options and stock builds.

2018 Ram 1500 vs. the Competition

  • Ram 1500 vs Chevrolet Silverado 1500

  • The Chevy Silverado is one of the major competitors of Ram 1500 in the full-size pickup category. Choosing between the two can be slightly confusing, so the choice should majorly depend on your priorities. Boasting one of the loveliest interior and a marginally discounted base price, Ram 1500 is a better choice. On the contrary, Chevy Silverado is a better fit if you want a higher hauling capacity and a wider range of options compared to Ram 1500.

    Chevy Silverado

    • Ram 1500 vs Ford F-150

    • Amongst the full-sized trucks, Ford is a popular choice due to its lowest base price and the highest-in-class towing capacity. Both pickups are loaded with the standard and optional infotainment systems, though the F-150 packs more driver assistance features trumping the Ram 1500 as the better fit. However, it still depends on you and your needs. If you can manage with somewhat lower tugging capacity and nominal features, the Ram 1500 may just be the right choice for you.
